An enjoyable read with a captivating atmosphere and memorable characters. In the beginning, the story was intriguing, but I found my interest fading around the 80% mark. I ultimately decided not to continue with the series.

β₯ I loved the side characters. They have so much personality, are so full of life and love. I wish I had friends like that in college.
β₯ Alex? Dreamy, devoted, and full of warmth. His love for his family, friends, and Ophelia was beautiful to witness. He truly gave off book husband energy with his protectiveness, loyalty, and heart.
β₯ The dark academia atmosphere was amazing. I have discovered recently I have a thing for dark old, haunted castle-based stories.

β₯ At times, the story would skip ahead suddenly, and it felt like key pieces of dialogue or development were missing. I also found the plot predictable, knowing who the "villain" was as soon as I met them.
β₯ I struggled with how often the main character cried. While I understand she was still grieving her parents (four years later), it sometimes felt excessive and made it harder to stay emotionally connected. It felt like she wanted to be miserable and alone, but then moped about being alone. Because of this, I had a hard time connecting with her as a main female character.
